Beatboxing and Books at Broadway
Broadway First School parents did themselves proud as children across the school were dressed up in their favourite characters. The day started with a parade around the hall, with Snow Witch, Paddington Bear, Boy in a Dress and Harry Potter being amongst the most popular characters. Teachers played their part too. Celebrating Roald Dahl’s 100 Anniversary the Headteacher came as The Grand High Witch and two staff teams dressed in character themes for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Big Friendly Giant. Younger children’s staff teams dressed up as characters from Cat in the Hat and Peter Pan, ready for activities based on those books.
Following an inspirational parade in the hall, children split into house teams for book based activities such as dream jars and making their own versions of Willy Wonka’s Golden Tickets (which will be hidden in books in our library).
In the afternoon the children showcased their writing talents with our very own ‘ECO Factor’. Teams performed the raps that they had written and rehearsed in front of the whole school and the judging panel. Great fun was had by all. Mrs Bull was the compare with judging from Mr Simon Callaghan (Mr Callaghan); Rita Ora Clements (Dr Clements); Mrs Darcy Bussell Browning (Dr Browning) and Mrs B-I-Am (Miss Boulton). The acts were incredible. Staff were very impressed with the beatboxing, lyrics and quality of the performances. After much deliberation Eco Girlz won the main prize, with all other acts being runners up.
Darcy Grant, aged seven, stated, “I think it was the best World Book Day ever!” Brayden Hughes, aged seven, agreed, adding, “I liked making the Neverland map.”
