Lesley-Anne Avis
Chair of Governors
I am Chair of Governors and a Co‑Opted Governor at Broadway First School. I'm a retired lawyer and have been involved in school governance for more than 34 years. I joined the governing board at School in 2020, and I feel very proud to support such a welcoming and dedicated school community.
I chair the Quality Committee and am a member of the Premises and Finance Committee, the Pay Committee and the Head Teacher's Review Committee. I also monitor English, History and Science.
I enjoy being actively involved in school life and using my experience to help the children, staff, and families thrive. Outside my governor role, I love cooking, walking, learning Welsh, and volunteering in school whenever I can.

Jacqueline Ferguson
Vice-Chair of Governors
I am Vice-Chair of Broadway First's Governing Board having previously served as Chair. I joined the Board in 2018 and feel honoured to be able to support and be part of the thriving and happy school community.
Like all our Board members part of my role is to monitor certain school subjects and I am excited to say this year it is French and PE. Both of these are close to my heart as I believe it is important to speak a language and I am passionate about sport and exercise - I always think any exercise makes you feel so good.
Outside school I enjoy walking our dogs and caring for our 2 ponies, Woody and Coconut. I also love swimming, surfing and tennis and having watched the Winter Olympics I am determined to turn my hand to Curling!!

Lee PoultneyHeadteacher
Lee Poultney
Headteacher
I have been the Headteacher at Broadway First School since 2019, having originally joined the school as Deputy Head in 2015. I began my teaching career in 2005 after retraining from a previous role as a Quantity Surveyor. Teaching has allowed me to live out the values I hold most strongly: acting with integrity, helping others to grow, and ensuring there is access to opportunity.
I continuously challenge myself and those around me to reach their full potential. This commitment has led me to achieve National Professional Qualifications in Senior Leadership and Executive Leadership. It is the blend of these skills and my varied experiences that drives me to strengthen and develop our school so it can best serve its community and its children.
Outside School, I enjoy spending time with my family and pursuing an active interest in sport and the outdoors. I am a keen Aston Villa supporter, a committee member and player for a local cricket club, and I also enjoy cycling and walking.

Lisa Fielder
Assistant Headteacher
Class 1 Teacher
Early Years Lead
I have been the EYFS Lead and teacher at Broadway First School since 2018, having previously taught in schools in London and Dubai after completing my PGCE in 2007. It is a privilege to work in a small, welcoming village school with strong community links and close proximity to beautiful countryside.
I am continually inspired by the excitement, creativity, and sense of wonder that children bring to school each day. Their curiosity, fresh ideas, and problem‑solving skills make every day unique. I am passionate about outdoor learning and value the opportunities we have in Early Years to explore outside together, as well as developing this approach across the school through OPAL.
I am committed to my own professional development and have completed NPQ qualifications in Senior Leadership and Early Years. Applying this knowledge in establishingthe Laugh 'N' Learn Nursery has been an especially rewarding experience.
Outside school, I love spending time with my family and our dog. We enjoy visiting the beach, camping, taking long walks, and going on cycle rides.

Jessica EdgecombeCo-Opted Governor
Jessica Edgecombe
Co-opted Governor
I am a Co-Opted Governor for Broadway First School and a parent of a child at the school. I work for the NHS in mental health care, therefore have a keen interest in wellbeing and psychology. My governor responsibilities are Mental Health and Wellbeing, as well as SEND monitoring. I have been a governor since 2023 and am proud to support a fantastic school and volunteer within my local community. My favourite part of being a governor is getting to see children develop within their time at school, and the yearly events such as sports day and the nativity show!
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family with lots of physical activity thrown in – Park Runs, long walks near Broadway, weightlifting and yoga. After owning a catering company for 10 years I also love cooking and baking with my son.

I still work full-time as a technical executive at the world's largest independent IT infrastructure services provider, headquartered in the USA, where I have worked for 31 years.
I am a member of the Premises Committee and Finance & Pay Committee. I also monitor Computing.
Outside my governor role, I enjoy messing with and driving cars, gardening, walking (we have a lively Cockapoo), and socialising with family and friends.

Tracy Perry
Co-Opted Governor
I joined Broadway First School as a Governor in April 2026 and am proud to support the school, its pupils and the wider community. I take a particular interest in safeguarding and bring 25 years of experience working in schools, including my role as a retired Executive Assistant to a Headteacher.
I am committed to ensuring a safe, supportive and positive environment for all children and I look forward to contributing my knowledge and experience to the Governing Body.
Outside of my Governor role, I enjoy gardening (not very good at it but it's the taking part that counts) and spending time with my lively grandchildren, who certainly keep life interesting.
The role of Governors at Broadway First School
We would like to extend our welcome to you. We are an active team of governors who are dedicated to ensuring your child gets the best possible education at Broadway First School.
The governing body of a school is responsible for:
a. Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
b. Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff;
c. Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent, and
d. Engaging with pupils, staff, parents and the school community to understand their views of the school
We do this by helping to create the strategic mission for the school and supporting and challenging the senior leadership team to ensure that the school efficiently performs its vital task of educating and preparing children for life in 21st century society.
In addition to attending meetings, Governors also regularly visit the school to meet with staff and pupils, observe lessons and monitor the 'School Development Plan'. Our current Chair is Miss Lesley-Anne Avis and Vice Chair is Mrs Jackie Ferguson.
